Chameleon Upholstery are Mark & Lisa Stanley. Our aim is to provide a personal, friendly service to local residents and small businesses.
Mark has been in the upholstery business for 25 years and loves what he does. He started off making divan bases and headboards and has continued adding to his repertoire ever since.
He particularly enjoys the process of restoring antiques, working closely with a colleague who carries out French polishing and furniture restoration.
Lisa has over 22 years experience in customer services and business management and she takes care of the day-to-day running of the business, including all administration and correspondence.
She can also offer advice on fabrics and trimmings and order samples for you.
Our home and workshop is based in Merrow, Guildford but we can travel to most locations within Surrey and sometimes, the surrounding areas, to see customers.
We carry out all aspects of upholstery from cushions, drop in seats and dining chairs to full recovering of armchairs, sofas and antiques.
We have a huge selection of pattern books from fabric companies such as Morris & Co. Romo, Linwood and Sanderson which you can come and view or if you can give us an idea of what you are looking for, we can bring a selection to your home.
All of our cushions are made-to-order with zips and optional piping.
We have a huge range of fabrics, any of which can be made into cushions of any shape or size.
Common cushion sizes are 30cm x 30cm (12inch x 12inch), 40cm x 40cm (16inch x 16inch), 45cm x 45cm (18inch x 18inch) and 60cm x 60cm (24inch x 24inch).
We can also make bolster or tubular cushions for chaise longues and window seats, for example in 15cm x 45cm (6inch x 18inch) and larger.
We strongly advise you to consider the upholstery at the planning stage of the carpentry. We are more than happy to consult with your carpenter/fitter/project manager on design and measurements.
All too often we get customers coming to us for upholstery as an after thought, once the seating has already been fitted and the space for the upholstery has been left too large; which means unnecessary costs or too small; which means not very comfortable.
Please note: When asking for quotations, customer's measurements will be used as a rough guide only and final quotations will be based on the upholsterers measurements.
THE UPHOLSTERY PROCESS
Due to a high volume of enquiries, we try to give an initial estimate using photos, via e-mail, to help you determine if we can meet your requirements.
If so, we are happy to arrange a home visit, or a pattern-book viewing, to build on a bespoke quotation and help you choose fabrics, and trimmings. (Not during lockdown)
During lockdown, we are helping customers to find fabrics and trimmings online and via e-mail.
Samples are sent out by 1st class post as soon as we receive them. If any are on back order, we will let you know.
Once you have chosen your fabrics and trimmings, we will arrange a measurement visit (post-lockdown) to finalise the quotation.
The quotation will be e-mailed to you and you will be asked to check it carefully and read a copy of our Ts & Cs.
We will also let you know when we expect to begin the work, and how long it will take.
If you are happy to go ahead, we then ask for a 50% deposit payable by BACS, PayPal or Cash to book in your work.
We are very flexible and can work around holidays/decorating etc but once the deposit has been paid, we cannot change fabrics/trimmings or collection and delivery location.

Where are we based?
We work from our home in Merrow, Guildford.
Our workshop is a barn built in the 1800's, which used to be a bakery for the estate.
The barn has 2 sides to it and is securely locked and monitored by CCTV.
We have given it a new roof, as well as sound-proofing and insulation.
The Workshop is not open to the public, but rest-assured, your furniture is safe here.
We are not a shop, but we are happy for customers to visit us by appointment to view pattern books, show us their pieces for re-upholstery and discuss what can be achieved.
